3 Things you can do to help the Rohingya Refugee Crisis
Donate: The Canadian Red Cross, The UN Refugee Agency, Unicef Canada, and Islamic Relief Canada are a few reputable donation sites. By donating through these organizations you can help provide education, medical services, supplies, food, water, etc to the Rohingyan people.
Set up a Fundraiser: You could set up a GoFundMe page explaining the Rohingya Refugee Crisis and why it’s important and advertise it to your classmates, friends, and family through social media platforms. This is just one idea, but there are many more ways to do this such as a clothing drive or bottle drive.
Spread Awareness: Social media is a powerful tool to gain awareness for underreported crises like the Rohingya Refugee Crisis. Twitter accounts to follow: @ProtectRohingya, @rohingyablogger, @ARSA_Official, @the_erc. Instagram accounts to follow: @iamrohingya,@ _save.rohingya, @ therohingyapost. By following accounts like these, you are able to spread awareness and educate yourself and others on what is happening to the Rohingya people.
Things you can do to help refugees in Toronto
Volunteer: There are many different places in Toronto that you can volunteer your time and skills to help refugees adjust to Canadian life. Everyone is welcome to volunteer for these organizations, but the majority of organizations are looking for Arabic translators especially. Click here for a list of organizations looking for volunteers.
Sponsor a Refugee: The Canadian Government has a private sponsorship program where you are able to sponsor a refugee or a family of refugees for about a year or until they are better able to adjust and get on their feet. Though this might not be for everyone, it is an initiative that can greatly help refugees adjust to their new life in Canada.
